Getting stuck on the side of the road sucks.  Getting stuck in the middle of nowhere really sucks.  But, getting stuck in the middle of nowhere right as a blizzard hits is just fate kicking you while you're down.  In retrospect, it wasn't the best idea to drive my cheap, old, beaten down Honda cross country, but I didn't have much choice.

I'd recently gotten wind of a series of murders up north that just screamed, "HEY!  There are monsters here."  Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not a hero.  I don't go around fighting off the dark and defeating the forces of evil.  I'm just curious.  Besides, I doubt I could even do anything to stop this.  It's too far out of my league.

I grew up in the "real" world.  Monsters were just scary stories and everything could be neatly explained by science.  It was a nice life, but I was just hiding under the covers.  I was "safe" from the monsters, but that didn't manage to last very long.

I was fifteen years old when I had my first brush with the Dark side of life.  It was night time, of course.  Thinking back, it seems like all the really bad childhood memories take place at night.  We lived in a fairly safe little town and my parents figured I was old enough to take care of myself for a weekend.  Oh man, was I excited about that.

The weekend started off great.  I came home from school and my parents had already left.  Obviously, the first thing I did was raid the pantry for sweets.  I played video games and stuffed my face for a few hours before I got bored.  I used some of the money my parents had left to order a pizza and settled in to watch some movies on TV.

I'm brought back to the present by a fallen branch landing on my hood.  The engine had given out over an hour ago and the heat from the vents is long gone.  The wind outside is moving the trees erratically and I don't know if I'm really safe here.  Oh well.  Too late to move now.

I'm sitting in the back seat of the car wrapped in several layers of clothing and trying to think warm thoughts.  I've duct taped my thickest blankets over the windows to try and keep the cold out.  I'm trying to think about the past instead of the cold and the wind.  It's hard.  Anyway, where was I?

Right, I was waiting for my pizza when I turned on the TV.  I knew immediately that something was wrong.  The TV wasn't broken, but the cable wasn't broadcasting anything.  There was no test screen.  No message.  Just a lot of fuzz.

The town was incredibly small.  Looking back, it was pretty amazing to get my pizza in ten minutes instead of the hour and a half it takes in the city.  Those were the good old days.  I suppose my entire childhood was "the good old days".  Oh well.  That's life.

I wasn't really friends with the pizza guy, but I knew he was a pretty nice guy.  When he showed up, I asked him if he knew anything about the TV.  He said he'd been hearing rumors that someone was down at the cable station cutting wires.  I thanked him and tipped him a good amount.

Depraved of my previous plans, I decided to go back to playing my video games.   I ate the entire pizza, I don't know how, and played for hours.  I don't know when it happened, but I drifted off to sleep at some point.  When I woke up, I didn't remember turning anything off, but everything was quiet.  I tried to hall lights, but the didn't light up.  I was definitely confused.  How could the power have gone out when there was no storm?
Salutations.

This is just a short scrap of literature that I attempted to write quite a while ago. I do not believe it to have any potential, but I felt a compulsion to post something here, even if it is just this garbage.
